Celebrate Your Power To Choose

We live in a world that is jam-packed with rules and guidelines. You can spend your entire day struggling to follow all the expectations and regulations of the modern workplace.

Or, you can opt out of the whole thing.

When you choose writing as a career, you get a special helping of personal power along with it. Suddenly, instead of spending your days trying to please a teacher or a boss, the only person you really need to keep happy is yourself. And you can express your freedom in many, many ways…

Maybe you only want to write about topics that interest you. That’s fine. You can spend the whole of your writing career covering the latest in pet accessories or split your time between the deer hunting and preparedness markets.

Maybe you’re in this first and foremost for the money. That’s fine too! You can go after those big paydays and big royalties. You can say no to anything that isn’t a five-figure offer from a proven publisher, and actively compete for bigger and more lucrative projects each year.

Maybe having flextime is your #1 priority. You’ll write anything that pays as long as you can still be at the school bus stop by 3 pm each day and available for field trips whenever you’re needed.

My point is that it’s ALL good. Every option is a valid choice and could very well be the exact right thing you need in your life right now.

You get to choose every day, every moment. What do YOU want? What will YOU make happen?

That’s incredible power and freedom. And it’s all yours now, as a writer. Celebrate your power to choose – and honor your power by making intentional choices that take you where you want to go in your writing career.
