One of the things I love about talking with Starr is her open and direct manner. She’s polite, yet doesn’t tip-toe around any of the serious issues writers face today as they seek to win good jobs and top-quality clients in a world where the newest, freshest thing certainly eats up a lot of airspace.
This is why I think writers of any age will get a lot out of our conversation this month — Starr knows how to get results for herself and for her clients. She’s also extremely generous in sharing what she knows with other writers looking for a way into the profession or a leg up in the journey.
In our discussion you’re going to hear:
- Why she feels writing “saved my life” after losing her job unexpectedly at 57
- How to handle the reactions of those around you — supportive and otherwise — so that you don’t give up on your dream
- Other doors and life options that writing opened up for Starr
- What it felt like to reclaim her financial independence and personal sense of agency by being a writer
- How Starr approaches each day
- What Starr is doing now to leverage her creative skills into writing work and work on her legacy with her family (she doesn’t want anyone to dismiss her as “just a nice old lady who bakes cookies” and after this, I doubt anyone will!)
Plus much, much more.
If you’d like to ask any follow-up questions of Starr, as she said, you can send it to me at pwamonthly@awaionline.com and I will pass it along to her!
